AIR CADETS LEAD THE WAY

CADET NCO’S FROM 1145 (DUNFERMLINE) SQUADRON, AIR TRAINING
CORPS, BASED AT HMS CALEDONIA, ROSYTH, HAVE JUST COMMENCED
A PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE, WHICH WILL RUN UNTIL APRIL
2002.
THE AIMS OF THE COURSE, ARE TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC TRAINING TO
ENABLE THE NCO’S TO UNDERTAKE THEIR SQUADRON DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES, EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY, AND TO ENSURE
THAT EACH NCO UNDERSTANDS THE NEED FOR, AND IMPLEMENTS A
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN.
CADET NCO’S AT THE START OF THEIR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE ON MONDAY 17 SEP.

THE NCO’S, WHO HAVE ALREADY SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AN
INTENSIVE LEADERSHIP COURSE, WHICH ASSISTED THEM TO ACHIEVE
PROMOTION, WILL TAKE PART IN DISCUSSION GROUPS, WORKSHOPS,
AND PRACTICAL / SCENARIO EXERCISES IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERING
SUBJECTS, WHICH WILL HONE THEIR INHERENT PERSONAL QUALITIES
AND SKILLS. SUBJECTS INCLUDE PLANNING AND ORGANISATION,
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS, GROUP DYNAMICS, DECISION MAKING,
MOTIVATION AND MORALE, INTERVIEW TECHNIQUE, MANAGEMENT v.
LEADERSHIP AND HEALTH AND SAFETY. TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS, THE
NCO’S WILL BE TESTED AT EACH STAGE OF TRAINING, AND WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE A RESPONSIBILITY TASK AND A COMMUNITY PROJECT.

WHILST THE COURSE WILL BE OF BENEFIT TO THE NCO’S, IN THEIR
‘DAY TO DAY’ SQUADRON DUTIES, THIS FORM OF SKILLS OF LIFE’
TRAINING, WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE OF BENEFIT AS THEY ENTER THEIR
CHOSEN CAREER PATH.

APART FROM PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING, ALL CADETS
HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY POWERED AIRCRAFT, EXPERIENCE
GLIDING, GO HILL WALKING, TAKE PART IN THE DUKE OF
EDIONBURGH’S AWARD, TAKE PART IN A VARIED SPORTS PROGRAMME
AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND CAMP AT AN RAF STATION
IN THE UK. THE SQUADRON HAS IT’S OWN JET PROVOST FLIGHT
SIMULATOR, AND IS THE ONLY SQUADRON IN COTLAND AND
NORTHERN IRELAND TO HAVE A PIPES AND DRUMS BAND.

PRACTICAL PROJECTS INCLUDE AREO-MODELLING, A CRAFT BUSINESS GROUP AND PRODUCING A SQUADRON NEWSLETTER.

COURSES AVAILABLE INCLUDE, PARACHUTING, CANOEING, FIRST AID, SKI-ING (IN BOTH UK AND GERMANY), MOUNTAIN LEADERSHIP AND OUTWARD BOUND.

THE SQUADRON IS THE LARGEST UNIT IN SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN
IRELAND, AND IN THIS, IT’S 60 ANNIVERSARY YEAR, IT IS LOOKING FOR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN, BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13 AND 16, WHO WOULD LIKE A CHALLENGE, MIXED WITH EXCITEMENT AND
ADVENTURE, TO JOIN THE NEXT RECRUIT COURSE WHICH STARTS AT
SQUADRON HEADQUARTERS, HMS CALEDONIA AT 1930HRS, ON FRIDAY
