Dundee & Central Scotland Drill Competition

By - Thu, 30th Aug 2001

Dundee & Central Scotland Wing of the Air Training Corps held their annual drill competition at RAF Leuchars on Sunday 26th August. This year saw Thirteen squadrons from the wing entering teams at both standard and advanced levels.
Standard Drill Competition

The standard drill competition is always well represented as it is usually the first time that cadets and NCO’s from each squadron have taken part in this kind of competition. A win at this level gives a team the confidence and experience they require in order to carry on as a team and hopefully move on to the advanced level. This year saw ten squadrons entering teams with the eventual winners being 1145 (Dunfermline) squadron. Sgt Heritage, the teams NCO, only finalised his team three or four weeks ago and returns the trophy to the squadron for the second year in succession

Advanced Drill Competition

The advanced drill competition is always very competitive as the winners of it represent Dundee & Central Scotland Wing at the Regional drill competition. This year was no different from previous years except that it was even more competitive. Four squadrons entered teams and at the end of the competition two teams, 1145 (Dunfermline) squadron and 1192 (Kirkcaldy) squadron, had exactly the same points down to three decimal places, the first time that this has ever happened. After much deliberation, it was decided that the two teams would share the trophy for the year but in order to decide which team would represent the Wing they would have a “March Off”. After a re-run of both teams individual drill displays which was judged by an independent judge, 1145 (Dunfermline) squadron were acclaimed to be the winners and as such, will now represent Dundee & Central Scotland Wing at the Regional Drill Competition to be held at Tulliallan Police College on Sunday 2nd September. This is the seventh year in succession that the Squadron has been successful in the Advanced Drill competition
