Emily Smith, Carnegie HallSat, 26th May 2012Emily Smith is one of the leading singers in the Scottish folk scene today. Her stunning vocals have gained her award-winning recognition worldwide, most recently two nominations at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Folk Singer of the Year and Best Traditional Track.
With songwriting that has been compared to that of Joni Mitchell, she also presents fresh, new interpretations of traditional songs and is carving out her own path in the current resurgence of folk music.
She appears at Carnegie Hall with her band Jamie McClennan (fiddle, guitar and backing vocals) and Matheu Watson (guitar, fiddle and whistle).
Emily’s latest release Traiveller’s Joy is a beautiful collection of traditional and self penned songs inspired by Emily’s travels overseas. Emily’s originals blend alongside new settings of traditional material, much of which was sourced from Scotland’s travelling people. Covers include Richard Thompson’s Waltzing’s For Dreamers, and Somewhere Along the Road by Rick Kemp which Emily recently performed on BBC One’s Songs of Praise. Other TV appearances include the award winning Transatlantic Sessions and BBC’s Hogmanay Live. click here for web link |
